The Police Department if headed by Chief Robert A. Gerrity, with a staff of eleven full-time, nine part-time Officers. Police calls are handled through the Lackawanna County Communications Center. For non-emergency calls phone (570) 342-9111. When calling this number, give your name, address, phone number and inform the dispatcher that you would like to speak with the South Abington Police Department. The Operator will contact the police via radio and the police will return your call. In case of EMERGENCY DIAL 911, day or night. Ordinance #'s 80 & 122 regulate home alarm systems which are required to be registered with our Police Department. A one time $10.00 fee is required. Ordinance # 43 regulates the parking of vehicles on Township roadways during the winter season. No vehicles are allowed to park on Township roadways from November 1st to April 1st of each winter season from 12:00 midnight to 6:00am due to snow removal procedures. South Abington Township requires buildings within 150' of the sewer line be connected to it. Each single family dwelling is billed a flat rate of $80.00 per quarter. Please contact the Township office for rates on anything other than a single family dwelling. Bills can be paid by mail or at the Township Offices. |

Dumpsters are located on the paved driveway across from the Township Building. Ink Cartridge Recycling to benefit South Abington PTA. Drop off empty ink cartridges at the Township building, 104 Shady Lane Rd.
CFL Recycling Program South Abington Township residents may drop off bulbs at the Township Building, 104 Shady Lane Rd. during regular Office Hours of 8:00am until 4:00pm. The energy saving bulbs have small amounts of mercury that should not be introduced into the waste stream.
